The Holy Transfiguration Monastery was founded over 45 years
ago as a small community that had received its foundation and rule of
life from Mount Athos, thus transplanting the traditions of the Holy
Mountain to this country. In response to a need for Orthodox
devotional materials, we began in a small way to mount icon prints and
to make incense, and later to paint traditional Orthodox icons.
As the community grew, improved methods were found to meet an
increasing demand. As monastics producing articles for use in Orthodox
worship, it was natural that we should be concerned that these be made
to high standards with care and devotion. At the same time, working
without the salaries and expenses incurred by private enterprise, we
have been able to offer these at prices far below what others would
have required.
Following the tradition and example of our monastic fathers, our
community is supported by the work of our hands and not by the
solicitation of funds. Hence, those who wish to contribute to our work
can best do so by purchasing the items that we make. In doing so, they
not only benefit the monastery, but using these articles in Orthodox
worship, they enrich their own spiritual life and witness to the
beauty and sanctity of our true faith.
